Glazed Properties

Ceramic glazes for brick and structural facing tile must provide extremely high quality standards. These units must show a:

       1. high degree of imperviousness.
       2. high resistance to facing.
       3. 0 flame spread, 0 fuel contribution and 0 smoke density.
       4. very hard abrasion resistance surface.

These qualities are thoroughly described in ASTM C-126 Ceramic Glazed Structural Clay Facing Tile and ASTM C-1405 Glazed Brick for Units Fired Over 1500°F.

Some brilliant glazes such as red and orange are available but they are fired at lower temperatures in a double fired process. They do not meet all the requirements of ASTM C-126 and ASTM C-1405.
